It might have taken 40 years to get here, but the Super Bowl has finally arrived in Detroit. Although the hometown Detroit Lions have never played in Big Game, this city is more ready than it has ever been to welcome the world to its venue.
Detroit is a party city, known for its incredible music and well-made cars, not to mention a certain Detroit Pistons basketball team. However on February 5th, everyone will be talking about the festivities going on at Ford Field.
To kick off the big game, fans will be treated to music by hometown hero, and musical legend, Stevie Wonder. Wonder will perform during the pregame show, along with a variety of other artists, whom are soon to be announced. Plans are to have Wonder, who also performed during the 1999 halftime show, play 3 or 4 songs to start the Pregame show.
The Rolling Stones, the band who has survived and thrived from generation to generation, is set to rock the stage during the halftime performance. While some in Motown may have looked forward to the likes of Eminem, Aretha Franklin or Kid Rock, the NFL decided that The Stones would have the best chance at reaching such a widely diverse crowd.
February's game will be the second in a row that halftime entertainment has been provided by British musicians over 60. Paul McCartney played halftime last year, as the NFL sought a family-friendly act to follow Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" in 2004.
